Valeggio sul Mincio does not face the lake: it lies just south of Lake Garda, on the river Mincio, a short distance from Peschiera. It includes the riverside village of Borghetto and the main town on the hill.
There is no railway station: the nearest is Peschiera del Garda, then a bus, car or bike along the Mincio cycle path, which links Peschiera to Mantua via Borghetto.

Borghetto, the Visconti bridge and tortellini
Valeggio is famous for the village of Borghetto, the Sigurtà Garden Park and its tortellini.
Borghetto is a small village of watermills on the Mincio, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Above the river runs the Ponte Visconteo, a fortified dam built at the end of the 14th century by Gian Galeazzo Visconti.
On the hill of the main town stands the Scaliger Castle, overlooking the Mincio valley. Nearby is the Sigurtà Garden Park, a large park with lawns, tree-lined avenues, ponds and seasonal blooms.
Valeggio is the home of the Valeggio tortellino, a delicate filled pasta also called the "love knot". Every June the Festa del Nodo d'Amore sets a very long table on the Ponte Visconteo.
