Where is Tignale? Tignale is a town of 1,154 inhabitants in the Province of Brescia, Lombardy, in the Lake Garda area. The town centre sits at 555 m above sea level, and the municipality covers 45.9 km².

Tignale is a plateau perched like a balcony above the Brescia shore, between the lake and the mountains of the Alto Garda Bresciano Park. The municipality is made up of small hamlets — Gardola, Oldesio, Piovere, Aer, Olzano and Prabione — and reaches down to the lake at the small harbour of Tignale.
From the western Gardesana road, between Gargnano and Limone, a hairpin road climbs to the plateau. There is no railway station: the nearest are Desenzano del Garda and Brescia, then a bus along the riviera. A car is the most practical way to move between hamlets and viewpoints.

A balcony over the lake, between sanctuary and olive groves
In Tignale you look at the lake from above. Olive groves, meadows and woods surround hamlets of a few hundred people, far from the riviera traffic.
The landmark is the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Montecastello, built on a rock spur high above the lake. The view takes in the upper lake and Monte Baldo on the opposite shore.
On the shore stands the Prà de la Fam lemon house, one of the riviera's restored historic lemon houses, open to visitors: an example of how citrus was grown at these latitudes for centuries.
Tignale is part of the Alto Garda Bresciano Park: trails lead into the mountains inland, and neighbouring Tremosine offers the famous Strada della Forra.
